9 Men of Madeley Leaflet

The Living History Project was awarded a grant to restore the communal tomb of the '9 men' in St Michael's graveyard. A short information leaflet was drawn up telling the sad story of the victims and the tale behind their fate.

Starting Out on Sutton Hill - Tales of people on the move

Sutton Hill was the first housing estate to be built in the new town. This booklet tells the story of the 'first overlanders' - the earliest residents of the estate. It tells how they settled in during their first three years.

Madeley Heritage Trail

A leaflet giving a brief history of the town and providing a trail around some 30 of its buildings. It is beautifully illustrated by Broseley artist Maggie Humphrys.

Parish Pubs - written by Kevin McLean with Eric Green.

This booklet tells the story of pubs and brewing in Madeley Parish. It covers the pubs past and present of Madeley Wood as well as those in the existing parish. All pubs we have been able to trace (including those now demolished) are included and marked on a map. Most descriptions are illustrated by a photograph.

The Woodside Story

This booklet arose from an initiative by a group of Woodside residents, led by Jean Edwards. It records the story of Woodside before the estate was changed forever by the regeneration scheme.

Madeley Wood Colliery

Madeley Wood Colliery closed on the 27th July 1967. Its shafts at Kemberton Pit were the last to have been sunk and worked by the old Madeley Wood Company. The company dated back to the end of the 18th century. The booklet gives a list of workers from the 1950s/1960s.
