The parish of Madeley was the crucible of the Industrial Revolution and home to the pioneers who shaped the modern world. It is recorded in the Domesday Book, but its origins can be traced back to the 8th century. Madeley High Street and Court Street are part of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. Madeley underwent great changes in the 1960's when it was incorporated into Telford New Town. With the construction of the new housing areas of Woodside and Sutton Hill, the local population almost quadrupled in 30 years. More changes to the area are currently on the table. Woodside is in the process of major refurbishment and Redevelopments will shortly see complete re-development, with a new supermarket and re-instatement of the High Street.
Madeley Parish can offer its residents a wide range of activities from social events at its many historic hostelries and community buildings, to state of the art sporting facilities at Madeley Court Centre, boasting an all-weather sports pitch, swimming pool and dry ski slopes. Many clubs and voluntary groups flourish throughout the parish.
