The Telford Trail

Sunday 19th September 2010

Telford's very own walking event, The Telford Trail, provides a unique walking experience. Nowhere else are you able to stroll through the birthplace of the modern world.

The route takes you through parkland and past tree lined pit mounds. You pass tranquil lakes, blast furnace ruins and the remnants of great feats of engineering. Descending into the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site you cross the iconic Iron Bridge then ascend historic alleyways and paths. These lead to the infamous Rotunda Steps. Admiring the view after your heroic climb, you then amble along beneath woodland canopies. It is here that Quaker Ironmasters and their workers once took their Sabbath walks. The route then passes through pleasant pastures to the finish line.

Following the South Telford Way the walk is a 14 mile loop starting and finishing at Telford Town Park. It can also be taken in smaller sections of 2, 8 or 11 miles.

It was launched in 2004 by South Telford Rights of Way Partnership (STROWP) and is gaining in popularity each year. The partnership was set up to define and improve access for rights of way throughout South Telford. It is supported by the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust.

The trail may be walked for pleasure or to raise funds for a charity of your choice.

Discover some secret countryside and opportunities for picturesque walks that may be closer to home than you think.
