Helping Awards

Thanks for Helping Awards are sponsored each year by Madeley Parish Council. It acknowledges the kindness of residents who have given their free time to help others. The areas covered are Madeley, Hills Lane, Woodside and Sutton Hill. If you would like to nominate someone, forms are available from Jubilee House. They will also be in the November 2009 issue of Madeley Matters.

Criteria:

  • Agencies and Voluntary groups are limited to one nomination each.
  • Family members cannot nominate each other.
  • No nominations for previous award winners.
  • No nominations from or for Madeley Parish Council staff or members.
  • The 'good work' must be undertaken voluntarily.

Recipients 2008:

John Wilkes

The Nomination:

For all the help that he gives at the Darby and Joan Club. He gets the room ready, and fetches the meals from the Abraham Darby School. If the school is closed he even cooks the meal. He gives club members lifts to and from the club. When they are unwell he makes sure that a meal is delivered to their home. His sponsor said: "He is always laughing and joking with every one".

Margaret Ghee

The Nomination:

Helps at the Age Concern Day Centre. She helps with the meals and on the trips out, always with a smile and a cheery word. Her sponsor said: "Margaret gives of her free time to help others like me - I couldn't ask for more".

John Price

The Nomination:

Has looked after St Michaels Churchyard for over 40 years. He has maintained the churchyard, and clear records of the burials. It provides families with helpful information regarding the location of burial plots of their loved ones. He knows more about the churchyard and its history than any one in Madeley. His sponsor said: "he has given a considerable amount of his life towards this place".

Betty Coppage

The Nomination:

Was nominated by several people, for being always ready and willing to help in any way. "She is always smiling and does all she can for you". "She is always ready to help anybody". "Her kindness, thoughtfulness and concern for all is great". These were just some of the comments from her sponsers.

Rosalie Yarnoll

The Nomination:

Helps in a number of clubs - the Hall Barn, Meadcroft and the Rest Room. She organises bingo, social events and buffets. She has also organised several trips. If somebody is ill she visits them in hospital or if they are at home she does shopping for them. Her sponsor said: "she really deserves this award."

Norah Patterson

The Nomination:

Is a helper at the Day Centre at Jubilee House. Several people nominated her. "She is always happy and smiling and ready to do a good turn." "She goes out of her way to help everybody." "She has been a fantastic support for me, and brings a little sunshine into my life." Just some of the comments of her sponsers.
